Hollywood has unfortunately given hypnosis and hypnotherapy a bad reputation that is far from the truth.

Perhaps you’re afraid of “losing control”, thinking you'll be asleep, or not believing you can be hypnotized.

Continue reading to discover more about how hypnotherapy works.

Let’s begin with the common myths and misconceptions that many people have about hypnosis.

Top 8 Hypnosis Myths Explained

Hypnosis Myth #1 Debunked: Everyone Can Be Hypnotized

Many people think only weak willed people can be hypnotized. This is totally false.

If you can follow simple instructions, like “Close your eyes, and take a deep breath,” you can indeed hypnotized.

If you have an IQ is above 40, you’re willing to be hypnotized, and you don’t have fears about hypnosis you CAN be hypnotized. It’s that simple.

Hypnosis Myth #2 Debunked: You hear everything that goes on around you

Often times, people think of hypnosis like anesthesia, like "you're under", or out of it. This is also totally false.

You're fully conscious while hypnotized, and there is no "selective hearing". You hear everything around you.

Therefore, you can hear the therapist's voice, traffic, or any other noises going on outside the office.

Hypnosis Myth #3 Debunked: You Remember Everything

Hypnosis does not cause any amnesia in any way. You will remember everything that is said to you during the session.

Hypnosis Myth #4 Debunked: You're not "out of it" or asleep in any way

You don't drift away or become unconscious during hypnosis.

We always tell clients that hypnosis doesn't really feel like anything, just like you're in the room the whole time.

However, during hypnosis, your subconscious mind becomes more active. We then reinforce everything you know you should be doing to the source of your behaviors and emotions - your subconscious mind.

Hypnosis Myth #5 Debunked: Hypnosis is just state of mental focus and physical relaxation

Hypnosis is a very similar state to daydreaming. It's NOT some crazy weird state with hallucinations or swirling colors.

If you've ever watched a great movie and wondered where the time went, or missed your exit while driving, that's an example of a similar state.

Hypnosis Myth #6 Debunked: You never reveal secrets while in hypnosis

You never reveal secrets while in hypnosis...unless you consciously want to! :)

You're always in full control of everything you say, do, or think.

Hypnosis Myth #7 Debunked: You can't get "stuck" while in hypnosis

It is 100% impossible to "get stuck" while in hypnosis. This is only found in the movies.

There has never been a documented case of a person remaining in hypnosis.

Hypnosis Myth #8 Debunked: You're never "under someone else's control"

Perhaps you've seen comedy hypnosis shows where the people "look" like they're "under the control" of the hypnotist.

In reality, since this is a context of entertainment, they are simply willing to follow the instructions that they were given.

In a therapeutic context, any suggestion that is out of the context of what you've come in for, would be automatically thrown out by your mind

You can never be made to do anything against your morals, ethics, or values.

Why Our Unique Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy Process Can Help You

Most people know what they should and shouldn't be doing. There is a simple reason nothing changes with fad diets, or using the patches, gum, Chantix.

Those things by definition can't address the source of our behavior and emotions - the subconscious mind.

Hypnotherapy works by reinforcing those things that you already know to your subconscious mind - so you can actually do them!

Don't just treat the symptom, treat the problem.

Our unique hypnotherapy process is SO different from plain, simple hypnosis approaches.

Our interactive process allows us to really take care of the real problem - smoking when you're bored, stressed, etc. Or all the emotional factors associated with overeating like emotional eating.

A simple hypnosis approach merely focuses on changing the behaviors, not really tackling the real problem - the emotional issues associated with the symptom of smoking or overeating or other things.
